Description
Paper Yarn (abacell) has a porous structure and it gives various functionality such as water-resistance, durablity, lighter than cotton, high breathability, cool feeling, odor deodorant and anti-bacterial. Also, it has been proven to be 96% biodegradable during 50 days in controlled composting conditions and 112 days in aqueous medium. These properties are inherent from its raw material and specialized manufacturing technics.
Paper yarn is inspired by Japanese Washi, which is traditionally made from Manilla hemp, also known as "Abaca". Abaca is a species of banana harvested in the Philippines, it is perennial and fibers can be harvested every 3 to 8 months after an initial growth period of 2 -3 years. Abaca requires no fertilizers and pesticides, thriving on rainwater and surrounding nutrients, also contributes to soil and water conservation.
