The Rita's World upholstery and wallcovering collection is inspired by the art of Rita Winkler, a 37-year-old, Toronto-based watercolor artist who was born with Down syndrome and who brings joy into the world through both her art and her actions.

“Her paintings are playful and intuitive, not analytical. You can feel the fun she has making them. There is freedom from realism in her choice and placement of color, and in her addition of decorations like dots and stripes. I knew it would be a great experience to use her work as inspiration and source material for a new textile line that blends our artistic perspectives.” -Barry Roode

The collection consists of six patterns available in six colourways.

Mushaboom Design™ announces the launch of “Rita’s World,” six designs in six colourways inspired by the artwork of Rita Winkler, a 37-year-old, Toronto-based watercolor artist who was born with Down syndrome.

“The collection obviously has numerous applications for children-oriented spaces – bedrooms, playrooms, pediatric medical settings, early education, libraries and more. But much of the collection cuts across age barriers to a broader range of applications, and I’m eager to hear ideas from others about where Rita’s art can help spread more joy.”

The manufacturing can be done for either residential or contract use depending on the project.

The process for this collection used photos taken during these evening strolls and multi-coloured shadows were photographed in studio with flowers, leaves and branches. Patterns have been built up with many layers of light and shadow revealing unique qualities of form and depth.

Bouquet: Big blossoms, branches, and vines were brought to the studio with multiple coloured lights creating a fantasy of surprising forms and colour combinations.
