British Velvets was established in 1932 & even though we moved premises in 2011, we are still weaving velvet in Lancashire, an area with a rich history of cotton textile weaving.

British Velvets has since its establishment, produced almost all types of furnishing pile fabrics, more recently concentrating on curtain and upholstery cotton velvets.

The company continues to maintain the standards and principles of high quality production in the manufacturing of furnishing velvets, which have been handed down through the generations, whilst adding a modern touch to this time honoured fabric.

British Velvets sells to a network of wholesalers, distributors and manufacturers both in the UK and abroad. We currently export around half of our production to around 40 countries world wide

British Velvets are velvet weavers based in Burnley, Lancashire. We stock support a wide range of velvets to cover every home and contract furnishing need, to service our network of wholesaler and manufacturing customers, around the world.

We use mostly cotton, but also bamboo, Linen, Lyocell, Modal, Polyester, Trevira CS, and potentially other fibres in the future.

Weight range approx. 330-620 g/sq. m

Most of our velvets destined for use in the home have a crease resistant finish, and those destined for contract end use have a flame retardant finish, which varies to meet the specific requirements for that application and country. We also sell velvet which has been prepared for printing.

Our service to our customers is our top priority. We aim to build long term relationships where we know and deliver to each customers' exact requirements. When needed we can develop special constructions and often produce custom colours, subject to reasonable minimum quantities, to satisfy a customer specification. We have a highly experienced Sales team, both in administration and field based, who are friendly and able to deal with all customer enquiries.
