The subject of freshness and cleanliness is becoming increasingly important in the home textile and contract sectors. Trevira CS Bioactive textiles have a dual function, meeting the requirements of preventive fire safety and enhanced hygiene in equal measure. In Trevira CS Bioactive, the flame retardant property is combined with an additional antimicrobial property. Trevira CS Bioactive contains a silver-based antimicrobial agent which is firmly anchored in the fiber polymer. This additive has a permanent antimicrobial effect that remains unaffected by frequent washing or wear. The antimicrobial additive does not migrate out of the fibers and the antimicrobial function is concentrated on keeping the surface of the fibers clean.

Textiles have an important role to play in interior design and furnishing. They form an integral part of the aesthetic concept, ensure comfort and exercise a sound-deadening effect. Function and properties

The secret of this inbuilt safety lies in the chemical structure of the polyester fiber. The flame retardant properties are in the form of a phosphor-organic compound that is firmly anchored in the fiber. External influences are not able to affect or alter this element. Unlike fabrics with a flame retardant finish, which can lose their initial protection through use, aging or frequent washing, Trevira CS textiles offer long-term safety.

Trevira CS textiles are made from flame retardant Trevira fibers and filament yarns, as well as the spun and textured yarns of partners at the spinning and yarn finishing stages. All fabrics bearing the Trevira CS trademark are tested for flame retardancy. Only after passing the fire test do the fabrics receive approval and may be put on the market under the Trevira CS brand name. Trevira CS fabrics meet the important international fire safety standards. They are easy care, easy to clean, dry quickly, retain their shape and are characterized by long durability. All flame retardant Trevira fibers and filament yarns are certified to STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX® and achieve the highest classification here, which means they are also suitable for baby articles.

Fields of application

Trevira CS fabrics can be used in all textile applications. These include: curtains, decorative and upholstery fabrics, wall coverings, room dividers, interior sun protection, as well as table linen and bedding. There is usually great interest in flame-retardant textiles where there are high safety requirements or statutory regulations. This is the case in hotels, cinemas and theaters, offices and conference rooms, as well as hospitals and care facilities. But also in the transport sector, i. e. in airplanes, trains and cruise ships, strict fire safety regulations must be observed, making the use of flame-retardant textiles necessary. Growing safety awareness and the development of ever more attractive collections mean that Trevira CS textiles are also becoming increasingly interesting for the residential market.

The Trevira CS Brand Concept

The Trevira CS brand family comprises different brands. In addition to the usual brand quality and performance, they offer properties and functions tailored to specific requirements. All textiles marketed under a Trevira CS brand are inherently flame retardant and have been tested for their flame retardancy.

Trevira CS – safe and pure

The Trevira CS brand stands for textiles made of 100 % flame retardant fibers and yarns by Trevira and their partners in the spinning and yarn finishing stages. Only Trevira fibers and filament yarns with a lowmelt component are permissible to be used as an addon. As Trevira CS textiles are made of a monomaterial they are especially suitable for recycling.

The Trevira CS eco brand unites the two properties of flame retardancy and sustainability. Here, products are made available that are manufactured using different recycling processes. The flame-retardant filament yarns are based on the use of recycled PET bottles and contain 50% recycled content (post-consumer). In the manufacture of recycled fibers, Trevira also uses an agglomeration plant, where residual waste from manufacturing sites is transformed into serviceable raw materials which rival the original products in both quality and performance. Fiber yarns produced from this material have a recycled content of 100% (Pre-Consumer).

To add further functionalities and/or design elements to flame retardant Trevira CS textiles, the brand Trevira CS flex offers possibilities for certain options in terms of how materials can be combined. It goes without saying that safety is our highest priority and can never be compromised. This means that the Trevira CS brand will only ever be awarded to textiles that pass the Trevira CS burn test. This is why, the textile fabric must compromise at least 75% flame retardant fibers and yarns by Trevira and/or our partners in yarn processing. The remaining 25% can be made up of other flame retardant specialties by Trevira or approved partners, including 5% non-Trevira materials such as fancy yarns. However, non-Trevira flame retardant fibers and yarns may only be used if they cannot be obtained from Trevira.
