Maeko Tessuti works with, not against, nature to produce its range of yarns and natural fabrics. As well creating materials from wool, organic cotton, linen and bamboo, the brand embarked on a project in 2014 to restart hemp production for textile use in Italy. Now part of a network of agronomists, farmers and textile technicians, Maeko Tessuti aims for fully localised production for its organic hemp fabrics. Growing hemp actively benefits the environment in many ways, including the plant’s ability to absorb harmful toxins in the air and soil. The brand has also developed an innovative eco-friendly cold dyeing system, inspired by traditional methods, at its laboratory in Como.
