F-abric by Freitag, Switzerland

Swiss accessories brand Freitag has developed a 100% naturally compostable material, created entirely within a 2,500 kilometre radius of its factory. Designed to biodegrade within a few months, F-abric is made from a blend of flax and hemp bast fibres, and modal fibres from beechwood. All three plants are grown in Europe and were chosen with sustainability in mind. Hemp, for example, thrives in almost any conditions, requiring no pesticides and very little water. F-abric is comfortable, durable and breathable with thermoregulating qualities. Textiles include denim twill, jersey and herringbone. The metal F-button is the only non-biodegradable component, but a patented screw system allows this to be removed and reused, and the remaining material composted.
