Frankfurt in fabric fever:
Heimtextil goes City

HT_goes_city_303

Frankfurt is in the tropics – at least a small part of it is – and textile fans can take a break in the ‘Palmengarten’, the city’s historical botanical gardens, by visiting Heimtextil goes City on Saturday, 15 January. Altogether, some 30 interior decorators, bed dealers, saddlers, furriers, studios and other companies are once again opening their doors to the general public this year.

Friendly: the sales personnel are happy to answer questions, e.g., at Tilo Ramm.

How creative are Frankfurt’s interior decorators? With which collections do they tempt their customers? And how do they present their fabric treasures?

There is no better opportunity for anyone wanting to obtain a concentrated overview of the home-textile scene in Frankfurt. Organised by Heimtextil in cooperation with the Frankfurt Interior Decorators’ Guild, the legendary ‘Saturday of the Senses’ will focus this year on the subject of ‘Craftsmanship and sustainability’.

The programme includes not only close-ups of the work and workshops of these textile specialists but also lectures on topics such as sustainable architecture and positive room climate.

Feeling fabrics: tour in the Dialog Museum with guide Thomas Roth (photo: Dialog Museum).

The fact that one can blindly fall in love with a fabric will be demonstrated at the DialogMuseum, where visitors have the chance to discover textile qualities in darkness (registration required).

At the Palmengarten botanical gardens, Dr. Hilke Steinecke will talk about plants and natural colours. As Andrea Müller, Palmengarten press officer, puts it, “Dr. Steinecke speaks with great enthusiasm about her subject. And, afterwards, visitors will hopefully have enough time to enjoy the view of the lake while relaxing in our attractive Café Siesmayer.”

Relax in the evening: Frankfurt has many interesting locations to choose from.

Tried and tested by members of the Heimtextil Team, we can also recommend the following gastronomic facilities: TABLE Café – Bar – Restaurant in Frankfurt’s ‘Schirn’ art gallery where you can enjoy your meal in a light, modern and art-oriented setting.

A complete contrast is Gasthaus „Zum Gemalten Haus“ (The Painted House), an inn distinguished by external murals, cider and local specialities.

Visitors wanting to enjoy Frankfurt from the modern side should try Biancalani Cucina which offers excellent Mediterranean cuisine overlooking the River Main, or the lively and cosmopolitan Schöneberger with its creative crossover cooking and magic interior styling.
